What sort of game is meillureacademy?
meillureacademy is an multi-fandom AU high school/university role play. There are both magical (wandless) and standard lessons at this boarding school set in Boston, Massachusetts. This is not a crack game and this is not a plucked-from-your-world-and-stuck-somewhere-else game. It's just high school in the regular world... for gifted students. Your characters have always existed in this world and either enrolled in the school by choice or were contacted by the school and offered admission.

But [insert canon here] is nothing like the regular world!
Depending on the canon, alterations can be made. Your character's land can simply be some little known nation (outside of their immediate region) or your character can have grown up in America, or England, or Japan, or an existing country similar to their own. For example, Larsa is from Archadia, but instead of having him be from whatever world he's from, he's played as if Archadia is in a region most of the world isn't aware of. If your character's canon makes allowances for inter-dimensional travel (ie, Bleach, Inuyasha, Kyou Kara Maou, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Doctor Who, etc) then having the other world exist is possible with mod approval. However, it would work better with the RP to adapt the character's world to the regular world.

What are the various comms for and how is posting done?
meillureacademy is for intros and other ooc things, meillure_logs is for the posting of logs, meillure_npc can be used for when NPC characters are needed, and meillure_mods is where announcements and other updates will be made by the mods. In-character posting is done in the log comm for 3rd person interaction and in character journals for 1st person interaction.

How can characters post to their journal?
Character journals are on an internal network that is very similar to Livejournal. There are two methods of posting. All school computers (located in the library computer lab and computer science labs) can access the journal system. Characters can also obtain a handheld device much like a palm pilot to access their journal from. The device does cost additional, but it is then the students property and can be used after graduation, as it contains other programs like a palm pilot.

Can characters see each others' user pics?
Yes, they can. But there's an odd thing about user pics. At times, they can reflect what the character is feeling or thinking without the character meaning to use it. An odd side effect of mixing technology and magic.

What are all these filters and privates and strike-throughs?
The journals have different levels of encryption. Strike-throughs aren't necessarily encryption, but is used in a similar fashion. Filters are only visible by the characters they are addressed to, and privates are only visible by the character that made the post, but can also be used as a stronger version of the filter. All can be hacked IF AND ONLY IF there is a note they can be hacked, or if permission is asked of the other player.

I want to play [insert character] but someone has played them previously. Do I have to pick up where the previous player left off, or can I start fresh?
Both are allowed, however starting fresh is probably easiest. If you wish to pick up from where the previous player left off, contact the necessary players to get backstory.

So this is a high school and university game?
Originally just a high school game, we've added a university section as well to accommodate graduated characters that players didn't wish to drop or restart as younger. The academy and university have separate but adjoined grounds. The campuses are not merged but it is easy to get from one campus to the other as they are right next to each other.

Boston is a big city. Where exactly is Meillure?
Meillure is located in a suburb of Boston. However, we have not selected a specific suburb for flexibility reasons. It's rather nice though, a leafy and affluent area on the outskirts of the city. There's are plenty of places to shop and eat nearby, a major mall not too far away, and the MBTA provides service to Boston.

What's the weather like at Meillure?
Exactly the same it is in Boston. Please use weather.com or a similar site before sending a thunderstorm/blizzard/hurricane/etc through.

How does time pass in the game?
Meillure runs on Real Time, meaning a day in real life is a day in the game. Feel free to alter times, but if a day is gone, it's gone. Please do not post on Friday as if it is still Thursday.

So there's Houses?
Yes, houses. There are four houses: Rouge, Aoi, Giallo, Midori. Students are placed into one of the four houses depending on the elemental affiliation of their ability or their personality. Fire-types go in Rouge, water-types go in Aoi, air/wind/weather-types go in Giallo, earth/plant-types go in Midori. With abilities that can go two ways, like lightning, Giallo or Rouge, it can depend on the student's personality.

When it comes to personality, Rouges tend to be the loud ones, the brash ones, the social ones that like to be around people, and the ones with the hot tempers. Aois tend to be a little mellower, a little more go-with-the-flow, but at the same time can have very scary moments (flash flood anyone?). Giallos are a mixed bag, some are light and cheery, others are completely wild, and yet others are very level and calm. Midoris tend to be the most level-headed and serious, but they can be both stable and unstable.

So what's with all the weird stuff that happens?
The majority of the students do not have their abilities fully under control and so there's a lot of power leakage into the atmosphere around the school. The professors bundle this up in their free time, but they can't be everywhere and sometimes various powers can produce various effects when they collide. That is the official explanation. There is a second explanation that is passed from student to student by word of mouth. Characters can only find out about this by another character telling them about it. Meillure Academy sits on top of a small Hellmouth, a demon prison. The loose magic the professors bundle up? They're used to power the seal that keeps the demons imprisoned. But the same way a guy in jail can reach through the bars, the demons can sometimes reach through the seal to toy with the students. Consider it their form of entertainment.

So... the weird things, they happen at the University, too?
Yes, but not for the same reason they happen at the Academy. The University doesn't sit on a Hellhole, as most of the students there have developed their abilities enough to where there is little leakage of excess magic. The whole Meillure complex has a special shield over it to 1) contain the leaky powers of the Academy students, 2) contain majors effects of magical events within the grounds, 3) make the complex look normal from the outside. Due to this shield, anything happening to the Academy can in a sense 'bounce' off the shield and affect the University as well. Some magical affects can even be transfered through the journal network.

How many grades does Meillure Academy have?
While we call it the high school section, the Academy is actually an intermediate and high school. There are seven years total, first year corresponding with the traditional sixth grade, and seventh year corresponding with the traditional twelfth grade.

What sort of academic year does Meillure Academy have?
The Academy runs the standard two semester year. The academic year begins in September and ends in June. The first semester runs from the beginning of September to late-December. The second semester runs from early-January to late-May.

What sort of breaks does Meillure Academy have?
MA observes the following official holidays by having the day off from classes or a short break: Labor Day and Thanksgiving Day. Between Fall semester and Spring semester there is a two week long Winter Break. Between Spring and Fall semester there is a three month long Summer Break. And mid-March there is Spring Break.

Can a student enter the academy after the semester has started?
There are two ways to introduce a new character. The character can either have been attending the Academy for a while, either since 1st year or some later point. Or the character can be completely new and fresh to the Academy from their very first post.

What happens when a student misses too much school?
If a student IC-ly misses more than ten days of school, they will need to repeat that year. And we have had students repeat years.

Do the boys have to stay out of the girls dorms and vice versa?
No. Boys and girls are both free to enter the opposite gender's dorms. This is not a panty raid invitation. Individuals can be blocked from entering the opposite dorm if bad behavior warrants it.

So, boarding school, students have to stay on campus?
Students are free to leave campus outside of class hours. No special permission is needed, however there are some curfews for school nights (Sunday - Thursday). Students must be on school grounds by 9PM and in their dorms by 10PM.

How are students housed in the Academy?
There are two dormitory buildings, one for the boys and one for the girls. Inside the dormitories, there are four floors, one per house. Aoi is on the first floor, Midori on the second, Giallo on the third, Rouge on the fourth. Each floor has its own common room with couches and a television. The laundry facilities are available the Aoi and Giallo floors. Small kitchens are available on the Midori and Rouge floors. A small communal bathroom is available on each floor. There is a basement in each dormitory for storage purposes only, the roof is accessible, and the dorms have a small elevator for handicap access. The entire dorms are set up for Wi-Fi.

What sort of dorm rooms are there?
Dorm rooms fit two students (though singles are available in a limited amount to 7th year students). Each dorm room has its own private bath and a small kitchenette consisting of a hot plate and kettle. Each student will have their own twin bed, desk, dresser and closet. Students are free to bring small appliances like mini-fridges and microwaves as well as television sets. The furniture in the dorms is movable, however all pieces of furniture in the dorms are enchanted to emit "I BELONG TO MEILLURE ACADEMY*" if there are any unauthorized attempts to remove them from the school grounds. How are students classified?
The number of cumulative credit hours students have earned will determine their classification. Freshmen are between 1 to 23.5 completed hours. Sophomores are between 24 to 59.5 completed hours. Juniors are between 60 to 89.5 completed hours. And Seniors are 90 or more completed hours.

So... what classes should the characters take?
For freshman and sophomore, a decent chunk of their classes will come from the core requirements. For juniors and seniors, a decent chunk will come from their majors. Research your major, see what sort of classes are required to complete a major. See what courses you'll need to take the first two years to take the classes you want to in the last two.

How many classes can the characters take at a time?
To be considered a full-time student (hand for things like insurance), a student must be enrolled in 12 credit hours each semester. Most usually carry closer to 15 or 16 to finish within the traditional four years. Anything above 18 hours is considered a heavy course load and should only be attempted by those that a) have no life or b) are extremely good students who need the challenge and can manage their time well. Carrying 21 hours is possible for a select few, but INSANE for most students.

When are classes held?
Nearly all hours of the day. Enjoy. Depending how your schedule ends up, you can have classes starting as early as 7am to ending as late as 10 pm. Most students try to situate their classes to one end or the other, or somewhere in the middle. (Because there are multiple classes of the same course available, getting the schedule you want isn't impossible, just... challenging. Expect registration time each semester to be a harrowing experience.)

What sort of academic year does Meillure University have?
MU runs the standard two semester year with short summer terms. The academic year begins in September and ends in May. The first semester runs from the beginning of September to mid-December. The second semester runs from mid-January to early-May. Then there are two summer semesters. One from the beginning of June to early July and a second from early July to mid-August. Full classes are not offered during the summer terms. There are also opportunities to take classes during winter mini-term from mid-December to early-January and during May mini-term from mid- to late-May.

What sort of breaks does Meillure University have?

No. If a character is introduced to the game after the semester starts, they will have been attending the university since the beginning of that semester. No exceptions. They will simply have not used the network until then.

How are students housed in the University?
Like at the Academy, there are two dorms, however they are mixed gender and the floors are not designated to specific houses. Even floors are for female students and odd floors are for male students. The amenities are the same as at the academy section.

What sort of rooms are available?
The dorm rooms for the university section are the same as in the academy section, except they are a little larger. The single rooms are reserved for a limited number of seniors.
